Keota 250,000 Gallon Water Tower

The skyline of Keota recently changed with the addition of a new 250,000-gallon, pedestal-style water tower.  On June 29, 1998, high winds in the Keota area removed the roof from the existing water tower.  At that time, funds were not available for replacement of the water tower and FEMA assisted the community with funds to replace the roof.

Keota City Council and staff along with French-Reneker-Associates and Pathfinders RC&D then worked to find funds for replacement of the water tower and for improvements to the water treatment plant.  Through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Revolving Loan Fund, Keota was able to acquire a low-interest loan to fund the improvements.

The water tower was constructed by McGuire Iron Company of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The foundation for the water tower was placed in September of 2001.  The steel was fabricated then erected in May and June of 2002.  The tower was primed and painted by the end of July 2002, and put in service in September of 2002.

UnderConstruction

The water treatment plant and well improvements are being constructed by Wendler Engineering & Construction, South Amana, Iowa.

The water treatment plant improvements consist of a new ion-exchange softener, piping, and controls.  Work will be completed in December 2002.

City Superintendent Kevin Slaubaugh, and Mayor Joe Baumert and Council are looking forward to completion of the project which will bring improved water pressure and water quality to the citizens of Keota.
